FAQ

A list of our most common academy questions. If you have anything else to ask, please complete the form on the contact page.
While basketball skills training is important, a well-rounded training regimen that includes S&C is essential for young athletes to reach their full potential. S&C helps to build a strong foundation of physical abilities that will benefit players in the long term and reduce the risk of injury. Put simply, a strong and powerful athlete is able to execute skills at a higher level than a weak and fragile athlete.
Age-appropriate Strength & Conditioning (S&C) training has been very clearly shown to not only be safe, but to drastically reduce the chances of injury, both short term and long term. Sport places a lot of stress on our body – our muscles, joints and bones – and a good S&C program will help prepare our body to be able to handle those stresses effectively.
Yes, each program will be individualised and catered to your needs. Whilst a majority of players will find themselves with similar needs, the smaller details and nuances that can be customised for you will be a catalyst for success.

The term “athletic performance” covers so many areas – speed, strength, change of direction, mobility; the list goes on. Ultimately, if you feel like you’re able to demonstrate these qualities better when you play your game, then that is the biggest win.

However, since we go above and beyond, we will re-test athletes each term, to continue identifying areas for improvement, as well as to track certain metrics such as vertical jump, movement quality, and elasticity/springiness.

Players can train with us anywhere from 1 to 4 times per week. Training once per week is infinitely better than not training at all, but obviously the more frequently players train (up to a point) the better results they will get.

Absolutely! Our sessions are small groups – 5 players at most – and players will always be closely watched and coached by our trainer taking the session.

All of our training sessions run for 60 minutes, allow players adequate time to warm up properly and get in a full, high quality session!
Players must be 10 years old (or 9 years old and playing rep basketball) to join our Athletic Performance Program.

Yes! During our screening process, athletes will answer a questionnaire then undergo a thorough screening protocol to identify what they are capable of.

Also, for more acute acute conditions, like a broken wrist for example, can be programmed around and worked through. Just become one part of your body doesn’t work right now, doesn’t mean we can’t train the rest of it!

THE FACILITY

Your sessions will run at our private facility, The Lab, in Box Hill South.

THE PROCESS

1. Complete Questionnaire

We’ll find out your history (injuries / prior training), and learn about where you’re looking to go (your goals).

2. IGNITION SESSION

We’ll put you through our performance testing to identify which areas of your athleticism can be improved first to help you on-court the most.

We’ll also show you how things work around the gym so that you’re up to speed at your first group session.

3. Custom Program Designed For You

Physical performance is a highly nuanced process, and no two individuals are the same. Which is why our systems and programs are 100% individualised.

4. JOIN THE PROGRAM

You’ll begin your program, joining in one of our small-groups, and start taking your performance to a whole new level!

You’ll be re-tested 4 times per year to assess your progress and make tweaks to your program.
